Where to Find God

When we are tired. When we are weak. When we are thirsty.

There is One who is able to fill the deepest longings of our heart.

And when we call to Him, He hears us. And when we search for Him, we find Him right where we are.

No matter what you're going through today, I hope this song will encourage you to know that God is with you. No matter what is weighing you down, He can lift you up.

"Cast all your cares on him because he cares for you." 1 Peter 5:7

Kari Jobe - Find You on My Knees (Official Acoustic Video) from emimusic on GodTube.

Troubles chasing me again,
Breaking down my best defense,
I'm looking, God, I'm looking for you
Weary just won't let me rest and fear is filling up my head.
I'm longing, God I'm longing for you

But I will find you in the place I'm in, find you when I'm at my end,
Find you when there's nothing left of me to offer you except for brokenness.
You lift me up, you'll never leave me thirsty,
When I am weak, when I am lost and searching
I'll find you on my knees.

So what if sorrow shakes my faith,
What if heartache still remains,
I'll trust you, my God I'll trust you.
'Cause You are faithful and

I will find you in the place I'm in, find you when I'm at my end,
Find you when there's nothing left of me to offer you except for brokenness.
You lift me up, you'll never leave me thirsty,
When I am weak, when I am lost and searching
I'll find you on my knees, my knees.

When my hope is gone, when the fear is strong
When the pain is real, when it's hard to heal
When my faith is shaken and my heart is broken and my joy is stolen, God I know that

You lift me up, you'll never leave me thirsty,

Find you in the place I'm in, find you when I'm at my end,
Find you when there's nothing left of me to offer you except for brokenness.
You lift me up, you'll never leave me thirsty,
When I am weak, when I am lost and searching
I'll find you on my knees

How to Find a Snow White Heart

“Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the LORD, “ Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool." Isaiah 1:18

Being snowed in this past week gave me a lot of time to think.

And, since all I could see out my window was a landscape covered in a blanket of sparkling white, I mostly thought about...well...snow.

I thought about how the color white represents purity and what Jesus had to say about being pure in heart.

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God." Matthew 5:8

Obviously, we all want to see God but, sooner or later, we all arrive at the same conclusion.

He is holy. We are not.

It sounds like a fairytale. We ask ourselves, "How is it possible for the impure to become pure? Can I really have a snow white heart?"

This is when we begin to understand our need for a Savior and why we marvel at the mercy of God and rejoice in the hope of the gospel. Because we realize that He offered an answer to the question - at the cross.

Our acceptance of His sacrifice, provides the cleansing we need. He sees us, our scarlet sin covered in a blanket of sparkling white. And we see Him. The One who gives us hope.

Hope, that unlike the melting snow outside my window, will never fade away.

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade – kept in heaven for you." 1 Peter 1:3-4

A Taste of True Love

I picked up this sign from a new little shop that just opened up in my neck of the woods. I got it because I thought it was cute but also because it had something good to say. A reminder to always keep these ingredients on hand because they are crucial to a lifetime of love.

And, just in time for Valentine's Day, I share with you...
The Recipe For Love

1 Cup of Romance
1 Pinch of Humor
2 Spoonfuls of Joy

1 Lb of Compatibility
3 Tablespoons of Trust
1 Cup of Respect

1/2 Lb of Sharing
1 Zest of Tenderness
3/4 Cup of Patience

Mother Teresa was right when she said that "The hunger for love is much more difficult to remove than the hunger for bread."

We all hunger for love. But too many of us are starving because we have the wrong ingredients. We are trying to feed ourselves with things that cannot ultimately fill that innate longing.

The Hollywood version of love is skewed, the kind that typically leaves you bitter and empty. But God's word gives us a taste of true love, the kind that endures.

Sweet and satisfying.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7

I pray this is the love that fills your heart today.

3 Tips For Putting Off Procrastination

Photos8.com
I've always known it.

Even as a child, the signs were all there.

When it was time to wake up and get ready for school, I would lay in bed until the last possible moment. Emerging only when my mother's voice grew from soft whisper to loud crescendo. Not exactly music to my ears.

Then there were the teen years when I apparently began to think of myself as Scarlett O'Hara.

I had the same answer to just about every question.

Time for homework?
I'll do it later.

Time to clean your room?
Later.

Time to get your driver's license?
I'll get to it later. (A year later!)

It appeared that my own internal time clock was out of sync with the rest of the world. I marched to the beat of my own drum. Slow and steady.

And so it was no surprise that I was labeled a procrastinator. And I have spent my adult life trying to learn how to overcome the challenges that are associated with that well-deserved title.

The perfectionism. The indecisiveness. The guilt.

Most days, I'm blissfully unaware of what I've missed out on by missing deadlines. And then there are days when it is painfully obvious to me that I should have paid greater heed to my mother's warnings.

She was as fond of quoting these famous words of Thomas Jefferson as I was of ignoring them.

"Never put off until tomorrow what you can do today."

And now I know why.  Because with age, comes clarity. Clarity to see that the second hand on the clock is marching to the same steady rhythm as always. Steady but fast. Much faster than my own.

So, what to do? How do I finally put off the procrastinating and make the most of the time I've been given?

Movers and shakers might offer this popular phrase as advice: "Just do it!" But that is easier said than done because fear of failure is usually a pretty strong motivator for staying stuck.

So here are 3 things I've decided to do as a step toward change...

1. Reflect on the wisdom of scripture relating specifically to this issue:

"Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might." Ecclesiastes 9:10a

2: React to every decision/opportunity by following the example of Jesus who said:

"I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work." John 9:4

3. Repeat this process daily knowing that when I put my hope and trust in the Lord, he will give me strength for every task.

"He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.  Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;  but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." Isaiah 40:29-31

Old habits can be hard to break but I know that God is able to make things new and with Him "all things are possible" (ref. Matthew 19:26)

"See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland." Isaiah 43:19

Learning About Love on a Word-Filled Wednesday

"God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them."
1 John 4:16b

February has become known as the month of love so I thought it fitting on this first day of February to reflect on the meaning of true love. And I realize that if I want to know anything about love I must go to the source.

So I pour over the pages of the holy book, read for myself the greatest love story ever written. And I pray that the Creator, the One who IS love, will teach me how to love.

"We love because he first loved us."
1 John 4:19
